Avnasa Gojjju (Pineapple Curry)

Avnasa Gojju is a simple side dish. In Konkani, avnasa means pineapple. I got this recipe from my husband's maternal grandmother. This is her favorite dish and hence she told me to try it. I found the taste to be very unique with the garlic seasoning.

Ingredients:
  • Pineapple, chopped- 1 1/2 cup
  • Rice flour- 1/2- 1 Tbsp
  • Coriander seeds- 1 tsp
  • Black sesame seeds- 1 tsp
  • Jaggery- To taste
  • Red Chilli Powder- To taste
  • Oil- 1 tsp
  • Garlic pods- 4-5
  • Salt- To taste
Procedure:

Peel and chop the pineapple into bite size pieces.

Then start cooking it along with jaggery and little water for 10-12 minutes.

While the pineapple is cooking, prepare the spice powder.
For Spice powder- Roast coriander seeds and black sesame seeds separately in few drops of oil. Then powder them together. Spice powder is ready.

Add this spice powder, red chill powder, salt to the cooked pineapple pieces. mix it well. Then finally add the rice powder. Now it starts to thicken. Add water, if the mixture starts to dry out. Let it cook for 4-5 more minutes. Then turn off the heat. Finally add the seasoning.

For seasoning- Heat oil and then add crushed garlic pods. Fry until they turn golden brown and then turn off the heat and add it to the curry and mix well. Avnasa Gojju is ready!!

Serve it as a side dish to rice. Above measurement serves 3-4 people.
