5 Cup Burfi for Deepavali

5 Cup Burfi is a very delicious and easy- to -make sweet. It doesn't require any special ingredients. The ingredients used for it, are generally present in everyone's home. I got this recipe from my grandma's sister. I just love this sweet (like any other sweet). 
I used to make it often in my college days. It was a disaster first two times and now it comes out perfect (you have to be a little careful at the end point). Make this easy sweet for your loved ones.

Ingredients:
  • Semolina/Sooji- 1 cup
  • Ghee/Clarified Butter- 1 cup
  • Milk- 1 cup
  • Sugar- 2 cups
  • Cardamom powder- 1/2 tsp (optional)
  • Raisins- For garnishing

Procedure:

Take all the above mentioned ingredients in a thick bottomed pan( or a non stick pan).


Keep it on a medium high heat and mix well to remove all the lumps. Once it comes to a boil, reduce the heat to medium. Keep stirring continuously.


After 15-20 minutes, the mixture becomes less liquidy and slowly the ghee starts separating from the mixture. When you see the ghee, continue to heat for one more minute and turn off the heat. Pour this mixture on a plate and spread evenly.


Cut the mixture into sqaures or diamonds before it cools.


Garnish each piece with a raisin. 5 Cup Burfi is ready!!


Store them in a air- tight container. This sweet can be stored for a week or 2-3 weeks in fridge. Enjoy this delicious sweet:-)

  1. I tried 5 cup burfi and did the same way with same measuremennt as mentioned by you. by burfi came out little sticky.. was not hard that looks like burfi... Did i do any mistake or what do you feel the reason for stickyness?

  2. I agree that this Burfi is little tricky and little difficult to find out the end point. I think the reason for stickiness is, it was under done. You should have heated it a little longer.did the ghee separate from the mixture?

  3. Yes lot more time than that.it was almost about to burn:( taste is really good. but it is sticky that is the only one thing. And i try almost all of your recipes, it comes very awesome. this is the first one it dint go well..

  4. I am not able to figure out what went wrong. Hope the flame was not very high. If it was high then there are chances of burning.
